Guest Speaker
Congressman Kevin Brady spoke with the Club about the six issues facing our Country that Congress is currently addressing. The first is securing our boarders, second Constitution, third eliminating the red tape for business, fourth welfare reform, fifth repeal Obama Care with a free market approach, and sixth tax reform, which was the focus today.
Congress is working to reform the broken tax code and will be voting on the reform within the first 100 days no matter who wins the election. This will be the first time in 30 years that the tax code has been reformed. The reasons for the reform is to fix the broken system, eliminate unnecessary special provisions, and to get the economy going again and not remain settled. If tax reform is approved this will grow the American Economy by 9% instead of 1% that it has been in recent years. The focus is to keep it fair and simple for families and grow the local economy.
- The reform supports growth of our business – By loweringthe tax for all business no matter the size will give business cash and capital. Also looking to give the business the opportunity to write-off all new business equipment, software, buildings, technology, etc.
- Redesign how business are taxed-Eliminating the Made in America product tax so American companies can compete on price and quality with foreign competitors. Eliminating the tax on American made products and the second tax will bring American Companies back to the States and create jobs.
- Eliminate the death tax-Stop the government from taxing/taking what you have worked so hard and created for your family.
- Simple and Fairness to fit on a post card-First simplify the tax brackets from seven to three and lower the rates at every level. Maintain only two standard deduction and increase them. Proposing to also lower the tax rate by half on savings and interest dividends. This will then encourage more savings, which is discouraged by current tax laws
- Special provisions-Keep deductions, such as home mortgage interest, charitable deduction, child tax credit, and the college/tech school deductions. This will help families increase cash flow and also grow the local economy.
- Bust up IRS-By breaking this entity into smaller units and getting them to answer questions from callers by establishing call lines for taxpayers. Individual call lines will be set up for business, families, and individuals! Also a department will be created to handle the minor disputes separate from the IRS and other disputes to be handled in small claims court.
The work continues on tax reform so if you would like to leave a comment or need more information please visit www.kevinbrady.house.gov/feedback.You have to speak up if you want a fair and simple way!
