GUEST SPEAKER
Kathy Sanders spoke with the club about New Danville is a 42 acre self-sustaining, master-planned and integrated community located where adults with intellectual, developmental, and or physical disabilities can live, learn, work, and grow emotionally, socially, and spiritually with their non-disabled peers. The community was founded in 2005 by Kathy and her son was the inspiration for the community. New Danville’s educational and skills-training activities promote independence, and productivity while providing opportunities to build friendships, self-reliance and self-confidence. The community offers low cost rental housing for adults who have the ability to live independently with minimal assistance. The residence as well as others that don’t live onsite have the ability to participate in jobs and life enrichment programs. The jobs are job outcome-based services. The products offered at New Danville are developed, created, grown, marketed and sold by clients and help support the vision of a self-sustaining community. With the life enrichment program activities include miniature horse therapy, gardening, art, and music. All aimed to enrich the mind, body and spirit and contribute to a sense of belonging.
Tea on the Lawn is New Danville’s annual fundraiser. This year the 9th annual fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 28th at the Lone star Convention Center. Featured guest speaker for the event will be Academy Award winning actress Mira Sorvino. Please visit the newdaville.org website for more information.
