GUEST SPEAKER
Audrey spoke with the Club about her Rotary International Conference trip to Saul! She and her husband spent a week and half in Saul. Flying Korean Air was a great experience, but the 14 hour time difference and 15 hour flight tired them out. The conference had over 50,000 Rotarians in attendance with representatives from 150 Rotary Clubs. The opening ceremony featured a lot of the Korean traditions and heritage. The Interact students from the Korean club marched in the Countries flags and displayed them on the stage. The Korean interact club is one of the largest in the world. The best part of her trip was getting to meet other Rotarians from all over the world. She was surprised by the amount of pictures they all wanted to take with her and Andrew. She thought it was because he is tall and she is blonde. She also discovered it is true that Rotarians like to party all over the world. When they walked out of the convention center there were food trucks and drinks all along the walk way. The vendors had a lot of random items. It was like a big open flea market featuring different foods, drinks, and items to purchase you could even get a spa treatment.
The Country of 11 million people features a lot of tradition, tall buildings and hazy air. The people are friendly, don’t speak English, and personal space does not exist. The people have a peaceful culture so much that the military and police do not carry guns. They toured the City and the DMZ where North and South Korea still have meetings. The people believe a peace treaty will be signed between both sides and the train station will soon be in use. They visited a train station that is already built to shuttle people back and forth across the North and South Korean Boarder. The next Rotary International Convention will be held in Atlanta. It was great trip and she enjoyed getting to see and meet all the different Countries! Rotarians are very welcoming and act like a familyno matter where you go!
