I look forward to serving alongside the members of the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe this year. The Lake Conroe Rotary Club has incredible members with diversified talents and expertise. Watching them unite to serve the community is a privilege.  It is an honor that they have placed me in a leadership position.

The Presidential Citation this year emphasizes Membership Attraction and Engagement, Foundation Giving, Use of Online Tools / Technology, Growing New Generation Activity, and Public Image. The goals are challenging, but I know that the club can achieve these goals as a team as they have done in past years.

The Rotary theme this year goes back to the main reason that Rotary was created, to serve others. The theme is “Rotarians Serving Humanity.” To make an effort to fulfill the Rotary theme within our local club, the main focus for this year is to recognize needs in our community and seek opportunities to fill these needs by forming service projects. I am hoping that by organizing these service projects the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe we can accomplish three main goals  (1) Community recognition (2) Improve member retention due to the gratification that members get from their projects and (3) Grow membership. I feel that when others see the good that Rotary is accomplishing, they will also want to be part of the good.

There was a quote from Paul Harris that was discussed at the Rotary International Convention in Seoul. The quote is, “I would like to think that the pioneering days of Rotary have only just begun. There are just as many new things to be done as ever there were. Kaleidoscopic changes are taking place, many of them without our will. Even to hang on to the fringe of this fast-changing world is about all most of us can do. Rotary simply must continue to pioneer or be left in the rear of progress.”  This quote reflects heavily on what I would like the club to achieve this year. What do we need to do as a club to recognize the opportunities and challenges that the growth and changes in our area will bring? I would like the club to not only make goals for the immediate year, but the future of the club. Where would we like to be in 5 or 10 years? What is our next project for the growing community?

This year we also have the opportunity to eradicate polio. Polio is a paralyzing and sometimes fatal disease that still threatens children is some parts of the World. Rotary along with partners have reduced polio cases by 99.9% worldwide since the project started in 1979. There have only been 17 cases Worldwide as of June 30, 2016. We are so close! Let’s continue to fight the mission that was started years ago.

I look forward to serving you this year as President of the Lake Conroe Rotary Club. Thank you for entrusting me in such a position. I know that the achievements this year will be spectacular as a club and we will live up to this year’s theme, “Rotarians Serving Humanity.” Serving is what we all do best and one of the reasons that I joined the Lake Conroe Rotary.
