November 2, 2017 BulletinGuest Speaker Mat Wilson Montgomery County Library Charles B Stewart West Branch
The Charles B. Stewart-West Library is named for the designer of the Texas flag. Dr. Stewart was a prominent member of the Montgomery community and contributed much to the development of the area. Since the Grand Opening in 2006, the local Lake Conroe Rotary Club has been working with other civic organizations in the community to landscape around the small lake on the property adjoining the library. They have developed a lovely park with a waterfall, a rose garden and a walking trail with several bridges around the lake. Currently the West Library houses a collection of 59,135 items. Regular computer instruction is offered inside the computer training lab. Statistics: During FY 2015, the West Library circulated 137,264 items and increased to 14,881 cardholders. |

Join a Polio Immunization TripIn November 2015, North American Rotarians will travel to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, for a life changing experience. Have you ever heard a Rotarian speak about their personal experience participating in a polio eradication exercise, a cleft lip/cleft palate mission, or work on a humanitarian grant? These trips have a profound effect upon the individual. For those of you who have gone on one of these trips you know, and for those of you who have yet to enjoy this experience, you should.

Meet Robyn DroddyOur congratulations to Robyn Droddy, the first recipient of The Linda Ricketts Literacy Scholarship ! Robyn is a first year graduate student at The University of North Texas, where she is working towards her masters degree in Library Science. She is a full time employee of The Montgomery County Memorial Library System, where she has been hailed by library director JeriLynn Williams as an exemplary employee. This scholarship will change my life" she told us " I am not only the first person in my family to graduate from college, I am the first to graduate from high school...It is a dream for my mother to see me walk across the stage to get a masters degree." Accompanied at the presentation by her mom Lois Rosencutter and her proud husband Justin Droddy, Robyn met Linda Ricketts for the first time at the breakfast meeting. We are excited to welcome Robyn into our extended Family of Rotary.

Changin the World, One Book at a Time - Linda RickettsIn a room filled with family, friends, District Leadership and Rotarians from other clubs, the first Linda Ricketts Literacy Scholarship was presented to Robyn Droddy at the August 28th meeting of The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe. The scholarship was created to honor Linda's decades of service to Rotary and her passion for Literacy. Linda has been the District Literacy Chair for more years than anyone - including Linda! - can remember. She has also served as the club's Literacy Chair for most of those years. Upon retiring from a successful career working for Soules Insurance (where she was introduce to Rotary by agency owner and Rotarian Dick Coyle) Linda began a new career working for The Montgomery County Memorial Library System. Linda retired from that career the end of 2013. She has worked tirelessly with Literacy Volunteers of America, where she has done everything from tutor to leading the group as CEO and Board Chair. Our club, our District and our County is a better place because of Linda Ricketts, and we are honored to call her one of our own - she is a Rotarian's Rotarian. Pictured here, Linda with her proud daughter, and fellow Rotarian, Jan Ricketts.

"A Rotary Moment" from The Conroe Courier"A Rotary Moment" The time draws near for a very special night in Conroe - The Judge Barb Sadler Farewell "Roast and Toast", co-hosted by The Conroe Symphony Orchestra and The Rotary Club of Conroe. This will be an evening of beautiful music, good food and great fellowship.
The event will be held on Saturday, September 13th at The Lone Start Convention Center. Judge Sadler has served this county for more than 24 years and will retire soon as the longest serving County Judge in our county history. Working with the County Commissioners, Judge Sadler has helped usher in the development of The Lone Start Convention Center, The Lone Star Airport, The Criminal Justice and County Administration Buildings and wonderful county roads, all while keeping our tax rates some of the lowest in the state for such a highly populated county. |
Every Rotarian Every Year"Every Rotarian Every Year" is not just a phrase - it is a commitment we make as a club annually to support The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International (TRF). Through TRF, great work is done at home and around the world. We continue our goal of having a 100% EREY Club again this year, with all members contributing to The Rotary Foundation for the 2023-2024 Year. Thank You Rotarians!
